Bergen City

City of Culture year 2000 - Gateway to the fjords
Bergen is the second largest city in Norway with its about 230,000 inhabitants. It is situated on the west coast of Norway, and is well served with public transportation. There is an international airport, as well as frequent departures of trains and boats to other parts of the country.

The city is known as "The Gateway to the Fjords", and indeed it is well suited as a base for sightseeing in the famous nature of western Norway. For the historically interested, Bergen also has a lot of places to offer. The city has more than a thousand years of history, and there are many places and museums of great interest.

Accommodation

We recommend Scandic City Hotel as it is often used for this kind of event and has a central location in downtown Bergen. It is also walking distance from the university sports center where part of our events will take place.

Tumlare offers the following prices at this hotel for participants coming from other countries than Japan. The prices including Scandinavian buffet breakfast are:

Twin room shared by two persons         NOK630,- per person per night
Single room supplement                         NOK255,- per person per night

At your request, Tumlare has come up with another offer. They offer you the following prices & conditions at Incity Apartment. Prices includes breakfast and change of beddings etc. for the period.

Studio apartment                                           2 beds        1090kr per apartment
2 rooms apartment (about 50m2)                2 beds        1290kr per apartment
3 rooms apartment (about 70m2)                4 beds        1990kr per apartment

The  following  rooms are also availale here:
2 rooms apartment (about 50m2)                2 beds+2 extra beds        1650 per apartment (412,5kr per person if shared by 4)
3 rooms apartment (about 70m2)                4 beds+2 extra beds        2350 per apartment (392 kr per person if shared by 6)

This establishment is also well situated not far from Scandic City hotel and should be good for those travelling with family and friends in order to share rooms and do your own cooking.

We strongly suggest that you very soon start making reservations for accommodation with Tumlare. Please be aware that Bergen is a very popular place for tourists the year round and last summer on several occasions all hotel rooms in town were taken. On such occasions some visitors have been forced to travel 2,5 hours out of town to find a room.
